Kanban boards with built-in automation and an Inbox for to-dos from email and chat, free for 10 collaborators

Project managementFree plan · from $5/user/mo

What is Trello?

Trello is Atlassian's board-and-card tool for organising tasks and projects. Cards move across lists on Kanban boards, and built-in automation runs rules, buttons and commands on every board. An Inbox captures to-dos from email, Slack and Microsoft Teams, and Planner schedules cards on a calendar. Pricing is per user, cheaper billed annually. The free plan covers 10 collaborators and 10 boards per Workspace; Standard adds AI features, unlimited boards and more automation runs; Premium adds Calendar, Timeline, Table, Dashboard and Map views and unlimited automation; Enterprise adds organisation-wide controls and Atlassian Guard Standard.

Good for

  • Individuals and small teams organising work on simple Kanban boards
  • Capturing to-dos from email and chat and scheduling them on a calendar
  • Teams that want light automation without a complex setup

Key features

  • Kanban boards of lists and cards with assignees, due dates and checklists
  • Built-in no-code automation: rules, card and board buttons, and commands, with monthly command-run limits per plan
  • Inbox that captures to-dos from email, Slack and Microsoft Teams, and Planner for blocking time on a calendar
  • AI on Standard and above: AI-generated boards, AI summarisation, and AI that generates checklists, adds due dates and merges cards
  • Calendar, Timeline, Table, Dashboard and Map views on Premium
  • Power-Ups that connect 200+ apps such as Slack, Google Drive and Salesforce
  • Official MCP server for ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and GitHub
  • Automation integrations that post to Slack, create Jira tickets and send emails

Limitations to know about

  • Free plan: 10 collaborators and 10 boards per Workspace, 250 command runs a month and 10MB per file, with no AI features listed
  • Timeline, Table, Calendar, Dashboard and Map views need Premium
  • SAML SSO needs Atlassian Guard, a separate subscription from $4 per user a month, unless on Enterprise
  • Trello is cloud-only; the FAQ says there is no on-premises version
