· Updated · 14 min read

The best Hootsuite alternative for running several brands, each with many channels, on one flat price is PostWharf: a workspace per brand with unlimited channels and no per-channel fee, a REST API, MCP server, CLI and webhooks on every plan, and a delivery receipt for every post, from $15 a month ($10 a month billed yearly). Buffer and Publer suit a small business on a handful of channels, Metricool adds reports, SocialPilot is shaped for agencies, and Agorapulse and Sprout Social suit teams that answer comments and messages together.

Key takeaways

  • The best Hootsuite alternative for running several brands, each with many channels, on one flat price is PostWharf: a workspace per brand with unlimited channels and no per-channel fee, a REST API, MCP server, CLI and webhooks on every plan, and a delivery receipt for every post, from $15 a month ($10 a month billed yearly).
  • Other picks by need: a free plan for up to three channels, Buffer; paying per account for one or two accounts, Publer (from $4 a month billed yearly); reports and competitor tracking with a free brand, Metricool; agencies that want client approvals and white label, SocialPilot (client approvals from $100 a month on Premium); a shared inbox for a team, Agorapulse ($79 per user a month billed yearly); listening and deep analytics for a large team, Sprout Social ($199 per seat a month billed yearly); sign-off before anything posts, Planable; a fixed bundle of up to eight profiles, Later ($25 a month); free and self-hosted, Postiz.
  • Why people leave: Hootsuite's Standard plan is $99 per user a month, billed annually, so the bill grows with every person you add.

If you are leaving Hootsuite, choose the replacement by the job Hootsuite did for you. PostWharf fits anyone publishing for several brands, or to many channels for one brand, who wants a flat price per brand and posting from an API or an AI agent built in. Buffer and Publer suit a small business on a handful of channels, Metricool adds reports, SocialPilot is shaped for agencies, and Agorapulse and Sprout Social suit teams that answer comments and messages together. PostWharf's figures were read on its own pricing page, every rival's but Planable's on the vendor's own pricing pages, and Planable's in one web search, all on 16 October 2026.

To publish one brand's posts to all of its channels from a single queue, see PostWharf's plans: the Starter plan's first seven days are free, and the card is only charged when the trial ends if you have not cancelled.

What Hootsuite costs, and why people leave

Hootsuite charges per user. Its Standard plan is $99 per user a month on annual billing for up to 10 social accounts, Professional is $199 per user with unlimited accounts, and Advanced is $399 per user, according to Hootsuite's plans page on 16 October 2026.

Per-user pricing is what makes Hootsuite expensive for a team. Three people on Standard come to $297 a month and five people to $495, before anyone moves up a plan. Most of the tools below charge by channel, account, brand or plan tier instead, so the price follows what you post to rather than each person (several still cap users per plan, so check that limit too). The other reasons are narrower: you only use the scheduler and are paying for a whole suite, or you run several brands and want each kept separate without a seat for every person who touches them.

How we chose these 10

We started from eight of the schedulers that AI answer engines named most often for social-scheduling questions in a Cituna scan of seven engines on 16 October 2026 (Metricool, Publer, SocialPilot, Postiz, Planable, Agorapulse, Zoho Social and Vista Social), plus four established names: Buffer, Sprout Social, Later and SocialBee. We kept the tools that:

  • publish to several networks from one composer and calendar, the core job Hootsuite does,
  • are sold to new customers with a price or a free tier we could find,
  • answer one of the needs people add to this search: cheaper, free, for agencies, for a small business, for several brands, or for team collaboration.

Three were left off. Vista Social: a pricing tracker reported in October 2026 that it had raised its plans (Professional from $79 to $99 a month), and we could not confirm the new limits. Zoho Social: the guides we found disagreed on whether its free plan includes scheduling at all. SocialBee: its entry plan, $29 a month for five profiles, covers the same ground as Later and Publer at a higher starting price.

PostWharf comes first because it fits the need this page leads with: many brands and channels on a flat price, with automation built in. After it, tools whose price does not rise with each user come before tools that, like Hootsuite, charge per user, and narrower picks come last. The order is our editorial judgement. Rival prices come from each vendor's own pricing pages, read on 16 October 2026, except Planable's, which come from the pricing guides one web search returned that day; where those guides disagreed, the entry says so. Plans change, so confirm on the vendor's own page before you pay.

The 10 alternatives, ranked

1. PostWharf

PostWharf is a social media scheduler: you write a post once and publish it to many accounts from one composer and one queue. It bills per workspace, and a workspace is one brand, holding that brand's channels, drafts, queue and delivery history apart from your other brands. Channels inside a workspace are unlimited with no per-channel fee, and no network is surcharged; five Instagram accounts under one brand still count as one workspace.

It publishes live to ten networks: Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky and Telegram. Reddit, Discord, Snapchat and WordPress are on request and cannot be connected yet. The composer takes one caption and one set of hashtags, with an override for each network. You publish now or at a set time, failed deliveries retry on their own, and each post is re-checked after it goes out, with one receipt row per network, so you can see what actually posted.

Every plan includes a workspace REST API with one key per workspace, an MCP server that works with Claude Code and other MCP clients, the wharf command-line tool from npm, and webhooks. PostWharf lists Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, n8n, Zapier and Make among the tools it works with, so a workflow you already run in n8n or Zapier can pass it finished posts. Our guide to auto-posting a blog to social with n8n and Claude shows the kind of pipeline that ends in a scheduler like this. When an AI assistant drafts the posts, nothing goes out until you approve it.

Prices on postwharf.com/pricing, read 16 October 2026: Starter is $15 a month ($10 billed yearly) for one workspace and 200 scheduled posts a month; Startup is $29 ($23) for three workspaces and 400 posts; Plus is $67 ($54) for ten workspaces and 1,000 posts; Pro is $99 ($79) for unlimited workspaces and 2,500 posts. Startup adds email support, Plus priority support and Pro dedicated support.

Pros: a flat price per brand however many channels it has, no network surcharge, and the API, MCP server, CLI and webhooks on the entry plan.

Cons: its pages describe publishing, not analytics dashboards, a social inbox for replies, white-label reports or client approval portals, and there is no free-forever plan.

Try PostWharf free for seven days and connect one brand's channels to its own workspace.

2. Buffer

Buffer's free plan connects three channels and holds up to ten scheduled posts per channel, with its AI Assistant for drafting and rewriting and room for 100 saved ideas (Buffer's pricing page, read 16 October 2026). That is enough for a sole trader on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn who plans a week or two ahead.

Paid plans are priced per channel. Essentials is $6 per channel a month, or $5 billed yearly, and Team is $12 per channel, or $10 billed yearly, with unlimited users and approval workflows on Team. Both paid plans have a 14-day free trial.

Pros: a usable free tier and a price that is easy to work out.

Cons: the bill climbs with every channel, so ten channels on Essentials come to $60 a month, or $50 billed yearly, and the free queue fills quickly.

3. Publer

Publer's free plan gives one user, one workspace and three social accounts, X excluded, with ten scheduled posts per account and 24 hours of post history. Paid plans start from one account: Professional is $5 a month, or $4 billed yearly, and Business is $10, or $8 billed yearly; Enterprise is quoted on request (Publer's plans page, read 16 October 2026).

Each further account adds to the bill: Professional is $12 a month for three accounts and $20 for five, Business $21 and $35, and each extra team member adds $2 a month on Professional or $3 on Business.

Pros: a working free tier and a low price for one account.

Cons: no X on the free plan, and the bill grows with every account and every extra member.

4. Metricool

Metricool pairs a planner (a visual calendar that auto-publishes, with suggested posting times) with analytics: automatic monthly reports in PDF and PPT, competitor benchmarking, hashtag tracking, Google and TikTok ads analytics, a Looker Studio connection, an approval system and an AI assistant for captions and alt text (metricool.com, bloggingwizard.com and inmagic.ai, found 16 October 2026). If Hootsuite's reports were the part you used most, Metricool covers that job on a small budget.

It prices by brand, the same unit PostWharf uses. The free plan covers one brand, and Starter is $25 a month, or $20 billed annually, for five brands. Advanced is $53 a month billed annually, or $67 monthly, for up to 15 brands, and it is where team and client management start. Listed prices exclude VAT, and X costs $10 a month per connected account on Starter and above (Metricool's pricing page and help centre, read 16 October 2026).

Pros: reporting built in from the start, and a free brand to try it on.

Cons: X costs extra, team roles and approvals wait for Advanced, and the free plan caps scheduling at 20 posts a month.

5. SocialPilot

SocialPilot's own rate card lists Essentials at $30 a month ($25.50 billed annually), Standard at $50 ($42.50), Premium at $100 ($85) and Ultimate at $200 ($170), with Enterprise through sales. Included accounts rise from 7 on Essentials to 15, 25 and 50 on Ultimate, and users from one to three, six and then unlimited, and extra social accounts cost $4 a month each (SocialPilot's plans page, read 16 October 2026).

The agency features sit on the upper tiers: client approval workflows start on Premium and advanced white label needs Ultimate. There is no free plan, Essentials comes with a 14-day trial, and annual billing saves 15%.

Pros: client approvals and white label on a published price, with unlimited users at the top tier.

Cons: Ultimate stops at 50 social accounts, and API access is only on the Enterprise plan.

6. Agorapulse

Agorapulse brings comments, messages and mentions into a single inbox for the team, alongside publishing and reporting; its listening is sold as an add-on (temperstack.com and Agorapulse's own comparison page, found 16 October 2026). If your team's day in Hootsuite was spent replying rather than scheduling, this is the job it covers.

It charges per user, like Hootsuite, but less: Standard is $79 per user a month billed annually, or $99 monthly, and Professional is $119, or $149. Standard, Professional and Advanced share ten social profiles across the account; only Custom is unlimited. A 30-day trial of the Advanced plan needs no card (Agorapulse's pricing page and help centre, read 16 October 2026).

Pros: a team inbox at $20 less per user a month than Hootsuite Standard on annual billing.

Cons: the free plan was retired in 2026 (napoleoncat.com dates it to 6 July), ten profiles is tight for several brands, and while X publishing is included, the X inbox and X reporting need the X Plus add-on at $50 per X profile a month.

7. Sprout Social

Sprout Social is a full suite with a unified Smart Inbox, listening and reporting; the comparisons our search returned describe its listening and analytics as deeper than Agorapulse's, at a higher price per seat (temperstack.com and postplanify.com, found 16 October 2026).

Essentials is $79 per seat a month billed annually, or $99 monthly, with five social profiles but no social inbox. Standard is $199, or $249 monthly, with five profiles and the inbox. Professional is $299, or $399, with unlimited profiles, and Advanced is $399, or $499; Enterprise is quoted. A 30-day free trial needs no card (Sprout Social's pricing page, read 16 October 2026).

Pros: depth in listening and analytics for teams that use them.

Cons: Standard costs about twice Hootsuite Standard per seat, so this is a move for capability, not savings.

8. Planable

Planable's plans differ mainly by approval workflow: Basic includes two approval types, Pro three, and Enterprise multi-level approvals (socialchamp.com and capterra.com, found 16 October 2026). Pricing is per workspace. Capterra and CostBench list Basic at $33 and Pro at $49 per workspace a month, while PostPlanify lists $39 and $59.

Pros: approval steps on every plan, priced by workspace.

Cons: the guides disagree on prices and on the free tier: Capterra and PostPlanify list a free tier capped at 50 posts (PostPlanify says lifetime, not monthly), and CostBench says there was no free plan in August 2026.

9. Later

Later sells plans in social sets. Starter is $25 a month, or $18.75 billed annually, for one set of eight profiles, one user and 30 posts per profile a month. Growth is $50, or $37.50, for two sets (16 profiles), two users and 180 posts per profile. Scale is $110, or $82.50, for six sets (48 profiles), four users and unlimited posts per profile (Later's pricing page, read 16 October 2026).

Pros: a predictable bundle with annual billing 25% cheaper.

Cons: 30 posts per profile a month on Starter, Starter cannot buy extra sets, users or AI credits, and there is no free plan, only a 14-day trial.

10. Postiz

Postiz is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence, so you can run it on your own server with no licence fee (its GitHub repository, read 16 October 2026). What you pay for is the server and the upkeep, including keeping each network's integration working, and recent versions add a Temporal workflow engine as one more service to run. One deployment guide estimates $5 to $10 a month on a Railway hobby plan.

Hosted plans come in four tiers: Standard at $29 a month for five channels, Team at $39 for ten, Pro at $49 for 30 and Ultimate at $99 for 100, all with unlimited posts, a seven-day trial and no free cloud tier (Postiz's pricing page and docs, read 16 October 2026).

Pros: no licence cost and your posts on your own infrastructure.

Cons: you are the support team, and the cheapest hosted tier, Standard, includes no team members.

Should you leave Hootsuite at all?

If your team uses Hootsuite's inbox, reports and approvals every day and the per-user bill is already budgeted, a move costs more in setup than it saves. Price it on your real setup instead: count users, brands and channels, then work out each shortlisted tool's bill on that count. Per-user tools (Hootsuite, Agorapulse and Sprout Social) get more expensive with people, per-channel tools such as Buffer with channels, and per-brand tools such as PostWharf and Metricool with brands.

When you do switch, export your scheduled posts first and note which ones repeat. Run the new tool next to Hootsuite for a week on one brand before you move the rest. If you need fresh posts to fill the new queue, our guide to planning a month of social posts in one ChatGPT chat gives you a calendar to load in.

Pick your replacement

If your Hootsuite bill was mostly about several brands or many channels, start PostWharf's seven-day Starter trial and give each brand its own workspace and queue. If you want to automate what feeds the queue, browse the Automate Basics tools directory to compare automation tools such as n8n, Zapier and Make by price and free plan.

Rival prices come from each vendor's own pricing pages, read on 16 October 2026, except Planable's, which come from one web search that day; plans change, so check each vendor's own page before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Hootsuite alternative for managing many brands?

For publishing to several brands, each on many channels, PostWharf keeps every brand in its own workspace with unlimited channels and no per-channel fee: Startup covers three brands for $29 a month, Plus ten for $67 and Pro unlimited brands for $99 (postwharf.com, 16 October 2026). If you also need built-in reports, Metricool prices by brand too, from $25 a month, or $20 billed annually, for five brands.

Is there a free alternative to Hootsuite?

Yes, with limits. Buffer's free plan covers three channels with ten queued posts each, Publer's covers three accounts (not X), Metricool's covers one brand, and Postiz is free to self-host if you run the server. Meta Business Suite schedules Facebook and Instagram posts at no cost, and one guide says Threads too, but it only reaches Meta's own platforms (shortsync.app and socialk.it, found 16 October 2026).

What is a cheaper alternative to Hootsuite?

Every tool here starts below Hootsuite Standard's $99 per user a month on annual billing, Sprout Social's Essentials included at $79 per seat. The lowest paid prices are Publer's $4 a month billed yearly for one account and Buffer's $5 per channel billed yearly. PostWharf is $15 a month ($10 billed yearly) for one brand, and its price does not rise as you add channels to that brand.

What is the best Hootsuite alternative for agencies?

It depends on what the agency sends clients. For client approvals and white-label reports, SocialPilot puts both on its upper tiers (Premium from $100 a month, Ultimate $200). For publishing for many client brands, each kept in its own workspace, PostWharf's Plus plan covers ten brands for $67 a month and Pro unlimited brands for $99.
