What is Microsoft Bookings?

Microsoft Bookings is the scheduling app included in Microsoft 365 and Office 365 business, enterprise, frontline and education plans; it is not sold as a standalone app. It offers personal booking pages and shared booking pages for a team, with services, staff, schedules and customer details stored in Exchange Online. Bookings works with Outlook calendars, can make each appointment a Microsoft Teams meeting, and sends email and SMS reminders (SMS in North America). It runs on the web and as an app inside Teams and Outlook. Business plans start at $7.00 per user a month, or $5.40 without Teams, on annual subscriptions.

Good for

  • Organisations already on Microsoft 365 that want booking pages at no extra cost
  • Booking customer appointments that run as Teams meetings
  • Letting staff publish a personal booking page next to their Outlook calendar

Key features

  • Personal booking pages with meeting types you share as a link
  • Shared booking pages for teams, with services, staff, schedules and business hours
  • Each online appointment gets its own Microsoft Teams meeting link
  • Email confirmations and reminders, and SMS notifications in North America
  • Customers can reschedule or cancel their own appointments
  • Runs on the web (book.ms) and as an app inside Teams and Outlook
  • Data stored in Exchange Online under Microsoft 365 compliance policies, with Graph API access
  • Admins can download booking activity as a TSV file

Limitations to know about

  • Not sold on its own: it needs an eligible Microsoft 365 or Office 365 subscription
  • No payment support: Microsoft's FAQ says you cannot link a payment option
  • When customers choose any staff member, Bookings assigns staff at random, with no way to ensure equal distribution or cap assignments
  • SMS notifications are available only in North America
