Zapier lets multiple AI tools use one MCP server
By Automate Basics, written with AI from Zapier's original
Zapier now lets teams connect multiple AI tools to one Zapier MCP server. People using Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can share the server's app actions, while its mode determines whether they can also share skills.

What changed
Zapier says one Zapier MCP server can now connect to multiple AI tools instead of requiring a separate server for each one. Teams can set up an app and its actions on that server, then make them available to connected clients such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. Calls made through those clients appear in the server's shared history.
The server's mode applies to every connected client. In managed mode, the person configuring the server chooses which actions clients can run and can fix a field to a particular value, such as the destination for a Slack message. Existing account and workspace restrictions still apply. Skills can be shared across clients only when the server is in agentic mode.
Who can use a shared Zapier MCP server?
Zapier says the multi-client option is available now through Zapier MCP, which comes with every Zapier plan. Adding an AI tool to a server requires Owner or Editor access to that server. The announcement does not give a separate price for this change.
The shared setup is most relevant to teams that use different AI tools but need access to the same app actions. A team can also keep a tool on its own server if it needs different actions or skills. Each client can connect to only one server at a time, so moving one to a shared server disconnects it from its previous server and gives it the shared server's mode.
How do I try one server across AI tools at work?
A useful first task is an app action that colleagues need from more than one AI tool, such as working with a Zendesk ticket. Before connecting clients, decide whether the shared server's mode and allowed actions suit everyone who will use it. In Zapier MCP, open the server, go to the Clients tab, choose Connect client and follow the instructions for the AI tool. Zapier also provides a Swap client option for a tool connected elsewhere.
Check that the intended action is available from each connected tool and that its calls appear in the same server history. If you are moving clients from separate servers, Zapier says the old servers remain until you delete them. Skills from those servers need to be copied over, and the shared server must be in agentic mode for clients to use them.
Frequently asked questions
Can Claude and ChatGPT use the same Zapier MCP server?
Yes. Zapier says multiple AI tools, including Claude and ChatGPT, can connect to one Zapier MCP server and use the app actions configured there. Their calls appear in the same server history. A client can connect to only one server at a time.
Will my skills be shared if I use managed mode?
No. Zapier says a server in managed mode shares its apps and actions across connected AI tools, but skills work only in agentic mode. Managed mode lets the server owner or editor choose which actions connected tools can run.
Do I need to delete my old Zapier MCP servers?
No. Zapier says existing servers remain until you delete them. You can choose a server to keep, move other clients to it and bring over tools and skills when ready. Moving a client changes its server connection and applies the new server's mode.
